International Programs

A global-standard curriculum available only from Waseda University, taught in English

Placing globalization as an issue of highest priority, Waseda University seeks to train students to become citizens who can immerse themselves into intercultural societies around the world to solve various problems that exist in those local areas, and contribute not only to those areas and Japan but also to the human society as a whole. To succeed in this endeavor, in 2018, School and Graduate School of Fundamental Science and Engineering, School and Graduate School of Creative Science and Engineering, and School and Graduate School of Advanced Science and Engineering started new international programs that allow students to earn degrees through programs conducted entirely in the English language, recruiting outstanding students from all over the world.

Admission for Undergraduate students

English-based Undergraduate Program in the School of Fundamental Science and Engineering (2 Majors and 5 Minors)

◆ Major in Mathematical Sciences
The Major in Mathematical Sciences will provide a broad curriculum, ranging from fundamental to applied mathematics. The aim is to equip students with knowledge not only of mathematics but also its connections to scientific and engineering fields, and to provide students with the mathematical skills needed to make a contribution to society. The course places particular focus on three topics that are essential in modern society: nonlinear mathematics, computational mathematics and statistical mathematics. In order to transcend existing frameworks and forge new mathematical fields, we have developed a curriculum system with links to other minors, enabling students to study science and engineering in an interdisciplinary manner, exposing them to mathematical perspectives. Department of Mathematics and Department of Applied Mathematics are in charge of the Major in Mathematical Sciences.

◆ Major in Computer Science and Communications Engineering
The Major in Computer Science and Communications Engineering has been designed to equip students with advanced knowledge in an integrated field consisting of Computer Science and Computer and Communications Engineering. Computer Science concerns the theoretical fundamentals of computing, information, and communication, while Computer and Communications Engineering concerns the engineering applications of data and content processing and analysis on computers, communication devices, and computer network systems. Department of Computer Science and Engineering and Department of Communications and Computer Engineering are in charge of the Major in Computer Science and Communications Engineering.

◇ Minor in Mathematical Sciences
Department of Mathematics and Department of Applied Mathematics are in charge of this Minor.

◇ Minor in Applied Mechanics and Aerospace Engineering
Department of Applied Mechanics and Aerospace Engineering is in charge of this Minor.

◇ Minor in Physical Electronics
Department of Electronic and Physical Systems is in charge of this Minor.

◇ Minor in Computer Science and Communications Engineering
Department of Computer Science and Engineering and Department of Communications and Computer Engineering are in charge of this Minor.

◇ Minor in Intermedia Art and Science
Department of Intermedia Art and Science is in charge of this Minor.

Admission for Graduate students

English-based Graduate Program in the Graduate School of Fundamental Science and Engineering (6 Departments)

The Graduate School of Fundamental Science and Engineering focuses on areas related to information, machines, electronics, materials, and energy, and on the foundation on which these areas rest upon: mathematics. The Graduate School consists of the Department of Pure and Applied Mathematics, the Department of Applied Mechanics and Aerospace Engineering, the Department of Electronic and Physical Systems, the Department of Computer Science and Communications Engineering, the Department of Intermedia Studies, and the Department of Materials Science. The Graduate School aims to educate individuals who have the ability to think deeply and imaginatively about modern science and technology, as well as the fundamental principles on which they are based.
